The geometric shapes that make up the flags of Brazil and the State of Minas Gerais are modified in order to emphasize the conservative and traditionalist character that is still dominant in those territories.

Symbol of stability and strength, the square is also associated with rigid thinking that highlights an extremely inflexible and reactionary mindset.
