Emotional Landscapes is a fictional travel diary about places chosen randomly on the world map, when overlaid by a digitally generated image which is produced during a working day.
Using the software Iographica, I tracked the movement of my mouse during the work period. Soon after, I overlaid the resulting image on a world map identifying the points with the most intense activity. At each point, marked on Google Maps, I created a brief story about the place based on Internet research of pictures and general information. The work is presented both as a website that displays the travel diary and also as a set of printed postcards.
In Emotional Landscapes I create relationships that begin in a virtual space and aim to better understand the real and the physical world: my travel diary is an experiment to understand places where I can only go through the Internet and its tools. In that context, what would the difference be between the real and the virtual world? In each destination I am writing a story of inapprehensible colours and unlikely sensations – while I plan my next trip.
